A Six-Step Weight Loss Plan from an Unlikely Source by Dom Del Prete
Periodically, many of us struggle with weight problems. So when you come across a good strategy for losing
weight, it's worth taking note. Recently, I had success losing 25 pounds in just over three months, so I wanted
to share my six-part plan with you.
Step One: Have a powerful catalyst for losing weight. Mine was -- and still is -- high cholesterol. My number
came in at 309. I didn't want to go on cholesterol-lowering medication so I made a serious commitment to drop
weight and keep it off.
Step Two: Make a commitment to eat right regularly: That not only means selecting the right foods, but
educating yourself on what the right foods are. Your physician or a nutritionist can be a good resource to
create a plan that's right for you.
Step Three: Limit the number of times you eat at restaurants. The main reason: You can't always be sure you
know what you're eating. For example, did you know some restaurants put butter in the boiling water to make
the pasta taste richer?
Step Four: Run with people who make you faster. I have been going to the New York Sports Club to run on a
threadmill next to some very good runners who help make the harder workouts easy and enjoyable.
Step Five: Turn a negative life experience into a positive one. Mine was a romantic setback in week eight of my
12-week weight loss odeysey, which affected my appetite but helped me shave off the last seven pounds.
Step Six: Treat your weight loss program seriously. To do this, periodically revisit that catalyst -- the reason
you ventured into your weight-loss program in the first place. I continually remind myself that I have a serious
cholesterol problem, which could lead to other medical issues. Fear can sometimes be a great motivator.
A Final Word
On October 3rd, 2004, I was 179.5 pounds . On January 3, I was 154.5. Twenty-five pounds. (I've since gained
back about six pounds.) What's more, my cholosteral is now down to 243 -- a 66 point drop. Not great, but
excellent progress.
Good luck in your desire to knock off some unwanted pounds. If I can do it, you can too.
